email: FirstVloginSpace@gmail.com

amount: $3,000

usage: The money will go towards all of our extra living expenses while traveling abroad while making the vlog. This includes food, internet cafes, lodging and transportation. We plan to travel very modestly, living on an estimated $500 a month. We will cover all technical and equipment expenditures.

timeline: We plan on leaving for Asia in mid October and will travel for six months throughout Asia. Preparation for this project begun many months ago, and will continue up until we leave. If we achieve some level of success with our vlog- and in the meantime don’t murder each other, break all of our equipment, or end up in a Thai jail- we hope to eventually continue with First Vlog in Space in other continents before returning home.

description: Our videoblog will focus on capturing the experience of backpacking abroad.

Filmed, edited, and posted biweekly throughout our travels, each episode will be a three-minute episode covering the highlights of our last few days of travel. We will not be neutral observers in the action; our personalities will contribute to each episode. In sharing our experiences, our videoblog will be part destination guide, part reality TV and part adventure journalism.

Our adventures, captured on video, will explore the experiences of two 20-something backpackers traveling abroad. Immersing ourselves in the backpacker culture, we will live on a shoestring budget; we will eat locally, stay with host families or in youth hostels, and embark on wild adventures. Bringing our unique experience back to the viewers at home will be our priority and goal.

The idea behind our accompanying website is that we create a “community” which consists of the previously unrelated pursuits of vlogging and traveling. We hope to bring these two activities closer together by encouraging vloggers to travel more, and encourage travelers to vlog more.

A long term goal is to set up new videoblogs in various places around the world to give exposure to important issues. We hope to leverage the popularity of our vlog to be able to provide a computer, a webcam with the appropriate software, an internet connection and basic technical training. The only thing left to provide would be interesting and important subject matter. An inspiring example of this is the Nata Village Blog. The new videoblogs would be built in to our website and would gain needed exposure.

Please check out our website (which is currently under construction), and email us if you would like further information about our project (for which we have plenty).
